Here is a swingin mix I threw together to celibrate how much fun you can have breaking all the stagnant cliches you here from so many DJ's today. If you're like me you often get board when a DJ plays one genre, tempo, or rhythm all night long. I much prefer to take the listener on a wild and unpredictable ride through the limitless musical Universe. To me a dynamic mix will juxtapose divergent stuff with a vengeance while keeping a strong flow at the same time. I Also don't mind dropping older stuff next to newer stuff. If you mix it right it will sound fresh anyway. Too many DJ's today play stuff just because its new or old and ridiculously rare, not because its timeless or even good. Of course the irony of this is that in the ever changing world of Underground dance culture, at any given moment half the people involved just showed up and have no idea what happened 2 minutes ago. So like the Griots in Africa I like to have a bit of history in the mix. My sonic way of expressing my belief that if we do not know our history we are lost. There is some really fun remixes here for that, and they're not the halfbaked watered down kind you so often hear-which brings another cliche to mind. I hate bland remixes that can't tie the shoes of the original. I would rather here a classic jam than some hyped up metheads anorexic remix but I digress. As for flow, I like beat matching but also love the hip hop approach to quick cuts, and it seems so many DJ's do either one or the other. There is a lot of both in this mix and I have found both have there place on a dance floor. I am as inspired by good house DJ's s much as I am good hip hop, breaks, dancehall, drum and bass, and rare groove DJ's. What I wish more DJ's would do is go and study good DJ's from other genres and learn just how many wildly different ways there are to rock a party. Anyway I truly believe that a good DJ will learn from others but ultimately do their own thing and break some rules. I hope you enjoy this mix. May the Funk be with you.

Here is an uptempo mix I did with a blend of breaks, funky house, acid beats, and general funkiness. A sonic diagnosis of my midwest/west coast dancefloor schizophrenia. Its a bit old but still fun to listen too.

This is a rare groove mix I did for my radio show Planet Groove. I am all about dusty old funk, it is some of the best music out there. Spun in the right way for the right crowd, it can still turn out a dance floor something fierce.
