Biography
Having come from a town that knew nothing of electronic music, Nathan did not discover House until 1999, when he went to an underground event called Sonic Beats. Before that, it had been Jazz, Classical, Hip-hop, Rock, and everything in between. But when he heard Terry Mullen and Terrence Parker spin on that first night, he felt like hed been waiting for the music his whole life...
In the summer of 2001 he decided that the only way to experience House fully was to play it, so he got some turntables and started collecting vinyl. After just two months, he had his first public performance and was soon playing at local weeklies and parties all over Columbus Ohio.
On March 23, 2002 he met DJ Ororo at a party they were both performing at, and the two quickly formed a partnership. Eventually, tired of not spinning as often as they wanted, they decided to start their own weekly event. The event, Restart has gone on for 5 years now and shows no sign of stopping. It is the longest running house weekly in the city.
In May of 2007 he moved to Chicago.
Sparrows hunger for improvement is what pushes him forward in his mixing (and what inevitably earned him a spot in the finals of the 2004 Greater Columbus DJ Battle). Through experimentation, and by taking inspiration from all styles, he is constantly developing his own style for the better. He believes in treating mixing as an artform and focuses on that moment when two songs come together and become something new. Some of his transitions can last for three or four minutes.
A graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, Nathan is also an accomplished Illustrator and Graphic Designer. You can see his work on both Ororos mix CD and his own. His goal is to integrate both his musical and artistic talents into a career while simultaneously playing a role in the preservation of the electronic scene.
Incidentally, the proper name for the most common type of sparrow in North America is Passer Domesticus.
It means House Sparrow.
